Title of Project: Mapping Attention, Psychopathology, and Lived Experience

 

Introduction:

The purpose of this study is to investigate individual differences in cognition, particularly across different attention subdomains in the context of mental health. The study aims to uncover the biopsychosocial underpinnings of attention function and dysfunction experienced by individuals with mood/anxiety symptoms.

This study is a one time session that will include approximately 200 study healthy adult participants from or around Storrs, CT. Your participation will last for 3 to 3.5 hours and you will be reached out to after filling out the screener and found eligible.

What would I be asked to do?

If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to:

  • Read and sign a consent form.
  • Complete screening forms.
    • Screening forms will identify:
      • Criteria needed to be included in the study
      • MRI compatibility 
      • Severity of mood/anxiety and attention symptoms 
      • Demographic questions (race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education, etc.)
  • Complete around 1.5 hours of various questionnaires asking about:
    • Life experiences, trauma, and stress across the lifespan (potentially sensitive)
    • Symptoms of depression, anxiety, attentional impairment
    • Life satisfaction
  • A 1.5 hour MRI scan, where participants will engage in six visual tasks that assess various aspects of attention and rumination.
  • At the end of the session, participants will be asked to complete an optional community engagement form, answering questions about their experience with the study and asking for feedback for future studies.

 

How long will this study take?

This study will take no longer than 3 to 3.5 hours to complete.

Will I receive compensation?

Participants will be compensated with $100 for their time and effort.
