Amar is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the lab who grew up in Connecticut before moving to Maine for college. He graduated in 2017 from Bates College with a B.A. in Philosophy and Neuroscience before moving to California to work as a Research Coordinator at Stanford University. He completed his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh in 2025 where he used longitudinal 7T neuroimaging to characterize the functional development of brain circuits supporting emotion regulation and cognitive control. He is interested in using multimodal and interdisciplinary approaches to characterize transdiagnostic psychiatric risk factors during critical periods of development with the long-term goal of identifying therapeutic targets for person-specific interventions to advance precision psychiatric medicine. Outside the lab, Amar enjoys wildlife photography, listening to music, reading, finding new plant-based restaurants, and spending time with animals in his life.
